AR / VR / 360VR Video for Beginners

Learn how to get started with Unity and Watson.

This is part of a series hosted by Cloudinary and IBM Code SF, a monthly meet up held in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Unity is the ultimate game development platform. You can use Unity to build high-quality 3D and 2D games, deploy them across mobile, desktop, VR/AR, consoles or the Web, and connect with other players and customers. Watson is an artificial intelligence platform that you can integrate with Unity.

  • Overview of Unity Editor

  • Scripting in C#

  • Using the Watson SDK

Follow along to see how to get Watson onto the Unity platform to bring AI to your Unity experiences. This is a beginner talk, so even if you have never used Unity before, you should be able to follow the content in this talk. Leave inspired to go hands on with Unity and build an experience using Watson services.

For the second half of the event, Dan Zeitman a developer advocate from Cloudinary will also be discussing how web video has changed in recent years.

Web Video is evolving. Last year, on both platforms, 360-degree video accounted for 4.5 billion views on Facebook and YouTube through the first ten months of 2017.

360 VR videos created by platforms like Unity and with a new breed of 360 VR Cameras like the Ricoh Theta and Insta360 One can generate 4K video content that requires additional effort to deliver and display on websites.

We’ll look at the challenges developers face when implementing 360 VR video.

You will also learn the basics about web video and the unique considerations for uploading, transcoding, transformation, storage, delivery and playback of 4K VR video.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll be able to follow along with your own 4K 360 VR video, or use ours to see how you can integrate vibrant 360 VR video into your websites.

Speakers: Amara Keller, IBM Developer Advocate @MissAmaraKay and Dan Zeitman, Cloudinary Developer Advocate @FilmFestNow
